Familia Yanes* – Metal Works

Familia Yanes* immigrated from Venezuela to Argentina a few years back. Covid 19 has increased the struggles the family has had in obtaining work, and food. They have experienced some Xenophobia and other challenges that come with being an immigrant. The father, Pedro, reached out to Operation Family Freedom in an effort to get assistance with his small business doing metal work. Pedro had been borrowing a welder to get a little bit of work to keep his family alive during the pandemic, but he had too many schedule conflicts with the owner of the welder, so he was unable to borrow the welder to do his work that people had commissioned him to do. Because of the schedule conflicts his work capabilities was less than 1/2 of what the demand for his work was.

After several months on the waiting list, Operation Family Freedom was able to assist Pedro in obtaining a welder. Pedro was very grateful for the assistance that he received and sent photos of some of the products that he built after having obtained his own welder.  In general, Pedro works on an as need basis, which in Spanish is referred to as “killing tigers”. Since he has had his own welder, he has been able to obtain work more consistently and he has been able to help his family with the basic needs.
