Familia Rentiez – Turning Dirt into Buildings

Familia Rentiez* lives in Venezuela and has seen firsthand how the country has deteriorated over the past two decades. When Juan contacted Operation Family Freedom he explained that he had been a public worker and has always received minimum salary there in Venezuela. Minimum salary is not enough for him to purchase food or basic life needs in Venezuela. Litterally equivalent to $10 or $20 USD a MONTH!

Juan explained that the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day saints had assisted his family with a bag of food every 2 months. Juan explained that there have been times that he has had to gather food from the garbage to feed his family.

Juan and his wife learned how to make cement blocks from his father-in-law, but the equipment they had to make the blocks did not allow for them to be productive enough to make any money building the blocks.

Juan applied for a grant to help gather 1 wheelbarrow, 2 shovels and 3 block molds.

Operation family freedom was able to work with Juan and a connection inside of Colombia (Familia Rentiez lives close to the border of Colombia) to help finance the procurement of some new equipment.

The border between Venezuela and Colombia is especially dangerous. For this reason, Juan asked that we protect his identification and keep from drawing any undue attention to him or his family. He sent photos of the new shovels, the wheelbarrow and two of the molds. You can see in the background that Familia Rentiez has been hard at work.

Juan and his wife expressed deep appreciation for the assistance that they received. This grant was issued in November of 2020 during a time when COVID-19 was making things especially difficult.

*for various reasons associated with extreme poverty it is necessary at times that the names and identifies of the grant recipients be changed to protect them. This family has requested this protection and so we have modified the name to respect their privacy.
