Familia Gonzalez – Transportation Repair and Food to eat

*Julio lives in Venezuela near the border of Colombia and is fortunate fortunate enough to have a job that allows him to repair appliances. Because of his job, he has to travel a lot from one location to another. Due to his lack of transportation, he is forced to spend 8 hours or more a day walking from one location to the next, and may only be able to service one job. Julio reported that his children were starving from lack of nutrition because he can not get enough food with nutritional value to feed them. Julio had a bike, but the tires were ruined, the steering wheel didn’t work, and it was lacking functional brake pads.

At first, Julio was placed on a waiting list and asked to be patient. Over the course of two months, Julio waited patiently. At one point things became very desperate for La Familia Gonzalez and Julio reached out to us again to see if things had changed. Julio continued to wait until the resources become available.

Bike tires are difficult to obtain at this time because of demand and production restrictions caused by COVID-19. It took some time and Julio had to travel to another city. Because Julio lives near the border of Colombia, Operation Family Freedom was able to assist Julio in obtaining the items he needed for his bike to become functional and provide a short supply of food for his wife and kids.

Julio was excited to send some photos of his updated bike repair and his full fridge. Julio expressed immense gratitude for all the help and generous donations that made it possible for him to have a quicker mode of transportation and alleviate some of the stress of a starving family. Julio committed to use this opportunity to help another family in his area as soon as the opportunity presented.
